Policy: Taxi’s Hospital Wheelchair                                                                             Date: 1/9/2023

Purpose: To have a Wheelchair readily available for the taxi to transport a resident to our facility from the Richland Hospital. The chair is labeled with orange paint stating SWH Hosp. chair.

Procedure:

1. The Wheelchair will be stored in the Richland Hospital Emergency Department garage. Environmental services are responsible for transporting the chair to the Richland Hospital after the taxi has brought a resident from the Richland Hospital.
2. When a resident is brought to Schmitt Woodland Hills from the Richland Hospital via wheelchair taxi, the chair is to be returned ASAP to Environmental services. Place the W/C in the hall by reception desk.
3. Residents using the W/C to be transported are to be transferred out of the hospital W/C and into an alternative chair as soon as possible.
4. Nursing staff will wipe down the wheelchair with disinfecting wipes after the resident is transferred out of the W/C, and prior to returning it to the ES department.
5. Environmental services will return the wheelchair as soon as possible to Richland Hospital.
