Subject: Restrictions on employee family members coming into work with a staff member.
Policy: To ensure that employees are not distracted from their duties while on the job at Schmitt.
Procedure:
- Employees are not able to give attention to a family member whey they are preforming their job duties. Thus, an employee’s children, grandchildren or other family member may not come and be at work with an employee while an employee is on the job.
- An employee’s family may come into the facility and be present with employee on the employee’s ½ hour break.
- If a family member is coming in to visit a resident that is acceptable at any time as long as the resident is okay with the visit.
- If a staff member has a family member that wishes to volunteer at Schmitt, they must prearrange that with our Activity Director in advance and can only stay at Schmitt for the time slot or activity that they are signed up to help with.
- In any instance where the SWH Board of Directors has declared a staffing emergency minor children/grandchildren will be allowed to be in the building during parent, grandparent or guardian’s shift. Children will not be allowed access to the common areas of the building or to intermingle with the residents.
All children should be restricted to the office/area occupied by that individual who is charged with their care while they are in the building. At no time should the child be left unsupervised. The area must be such that the child does not come in contact with a resident.
A Board declared emergency does not absolve any employee from coordinating and obtaining approval from their direct supervisor in those cases where minor children will be in the building during their work shift.
If an employee fails to follow this policy, they may be disciplined under our normal disciplinary procedure. See Employee Discipline Policy and Procedure.
